If you've chosen a rental property with air conditioning then you'll be aware of the benefits it can bring to your all-round comfort whatever time of year.
All we ask is that you use it sensibly. For cooling, the air-con works best when set to around 23˚ C. The coolest setting (normally 16˚C) is not always the most efficient.
When using the air-con, keep doors and windows closed. The system is not designed to cool down your patio or the street outside. And, when leaving the property, turn the air-con off. It will only take a few minutes to cool down your rooms again when you return.
Above all, please treat your air conditioning with respect. Using it irresponsibly is not only unfair to the owner, it's also unkind to the environment.
If you're not making your own arrangements for transfer to your property we will be pleased to assist you. Our SHZ partners provide a fully legal and insured airport collection and transfer to your rental property. Please enquire about rates and requirements when booking your property.
|Attractions and days out||
While the beach and pool provide the major attractions during the summer months, there's plenty to keep you occupied. So much, in fact that we'd need another web site to cover everything!
There's something for all ages, all walks of life and - thanks to the weather here - something to do all year round. From exploring the history and culture of the area with the cities of Alicante, Cartagena and Murcia each within one hour's drive, shopping at any of the numerous boutiques and malls to indulging in an array of sporting activities - in, on or off the water - to either pass the time of day or get the adrenalin flowing.
|Banks and currency||
Branches of all the major Spanish banks can be found in Pilar de la Horadada offering over the counter transactions from 08.30 until 13.30. If you're exchanging currency, then it's best to do it before you arrive - and preferably not at your airport of departure. Sterling is not generally accepted by the local banks here in exchange for Euros, but there are plenty of ATMs in the area where you can withdraw Euros 24-7 or for topping up Spanish mobile phones.
The Costa Blanca and Costa Calida boast some of the best beaches in Spain - and arguably some of the best in the Mediterranean.
By staying in one of our Spanish Home Zone properties, you will never be further than 15 minutes drive from the nearest beach. In some cases, you'll be within 5 minutes walk!
From Cabo Roig in the north of the Spanish Home Zone down to Los Alcázares on the Mar Menor, you'll be spoilt for choice. The majority have Blue Flag status - and those that don't are usually only through a shortfall in beach amenities rather than the cleanliness of the water or the seashore
All bedding and towels, appropriate to the time of year, will be provided for your stay. As your property is let on a self-catering basis, we do not provide a change of linen or towels during your stay. Please make use of the washing machine provided.
With the relatively flat landscape, getting around on two wheels here is as popular as ever and a great way to explore. Through our partners at Costa Blanca Bike Hire you can hire a bike for yourself or your family, either before you arrive or when you are here. The bikes are delivered to and collected from your rental property. For daily hire or the duration of your stay. What could be easier? Please click on the link for more information.
We've provided some useful information to help you through prior to booking your holiday rental. Please click Booking Information to take you directly to that section.
If you're planning to hire a car for use during your trip, you may like to pre-book it and collect it from the airport. Alternatively, through our fully registered associates, we can arrange car hire for you from here. The car will be delivered to your property on your arrival which means we can collect you from the airport and take you straight to your property without the inconvenience of queuing at the rental desk or getting lost en route.
We can also supply car seats and booster seats which are a legal necessity if you have young children in tow. Please click here for more information Car Hire and let us know the dates you require and number in your party.
Many of our rental properties are located with small 'urbanizations' which share communal areas such as gardens and swimming pool. Each community has published its own set of community rules (a copy of which will be available at the property) so that residents and visitors have mutual enjoyment of their surroundings and facilities. Please familiarize yourself with the community rules and respect them as they are for your benefit, comfort and safety.
|Cot hire and baby equipment||
For infants and toddlers we can supply a range of equipment through our registered partners to suit your requirements. From cots and stair guards to strollers and baby walkers. Either enquire during the booking process or click here for more information on rates and availability Cot Hire for your travel dates.
Just a small point, but if you're a first time visitor please remember that Spain uses the standard two-pin euro plug for domestic electrical equipment and appliances. Two-pin to three-pin (English standard) adapters are widely available in the UK or can be purchased locally from supermarkets and electrical goods outlets. The power supply is 220 volts.
When thinking about golf in this part of Spain, it's difficult not to think in superlatives.
For a start, there is no better climate in Europe for year-round golfing than southern Spain.
Then - and thanks to Polaris World - there's the largest golf course circuit in Europe.
In the triangle formed by Alicante, Murcia and La Manga, there are more than 20 golf courses to choose from, many bearing the hallmarks of golfing legends such as Jack Nicklaus, Bernard Langer and Spain's own Seve Ballesteros. But for the closest (and most reasonably priced) golf course, try Lo Romero which is located mid-way between Pilar de la Horadada and Campoverde.
There are numerous golf-related outlets in the area that can assist with equipment hire and arrange bookings for you.
|How to book||
We've provided some essential information to help you through the process of booking your rental. Please click How to book to take you directly to that section.
We're pleased to offer a maid service to our rental clients who need that extra bit of help with (or a break from) tidying up, making beds, cleaning and other household duties. This can be for as little or as often as you would like. Please click here Maid Service to request more details on rates and to indicate your requirements during your stay.
Most towns in the area have a designated market day. Some are larger than others, but mostly share a broad selection of fresh, local produce, household goods, clothing, souvenirs and imports.
Monday : San Pedro del Pinatar (am)
Tuesday : Mil Palmeras (pm) [July and August]
Wednesday : Torre de la Horadada (pm) [July and August]
Thursday : San Javier
Friday : Pilar de la Horadada (am)
Saturday : Playa Flamenca (am)
NB: Market days and times subject to change.
|Meet and greet service||
Meeting and greeting our rental guests has been one of the cornerstones of our personal service throughout our 10 years of business. We offer you the choice of being met at your airport of arrival and transporting you to your property or meeting you at a pre-arranged rendezvous point to guide you to your accommodation.
In both scenarios, we'll show you around the property, help you to get your bearings and answer any immediate questions you may have to help make your stay more enjoyable.
Please remember that although Sat-Nav here is slowly getting up to speed with other northern European countries, it is not always 100% reliable in picking out specific properties especially when they are set inside an urbanization or off the beaten track. It's also worth noting that Spanish postal codes tend to cover a whole town or area rather than an individual property or small cluster as in the UK.
The crystal clear waters of your private or communal pool are there for all to enjoy thanks to the teams of professionals who work behind the scenes keeping your pool maintained to the highest standards.
However, sometimes the minority can spoil everything for the majority by disregarding a few simple guidelines.
• Always shower before using the pool, taking care to remove as much sand and sun lotion as you can. It's recommended to shower after using the pool too.
• Refrain from smoking, eating and drinking poolside or in the pool
• Respect other users, residents and visitors alike
• Familiarize yourself and your family of any pool rules especially if you are using a community pool
"What's the crime rate like here?" is a question we get asked from time to time. In our experience, it's no worse than it is in other parts of Europe. To improve your personal security and reduce the likelihood of being involved in a crime, especially as you are out of the comfort zone of your home environment, we would simply recommend that you stay aware and remain vigilant at all times.
Most crimes are petty thefts involving opportunist thieves - but they are few and far between. The downside is that you never know if and when it might happen to you.
For some useful tips, you can click here to download our Visitor Security Guide.
For everyday needs you'll find a choice of supermarkets - including Carrefour, Consum, Mercadona and SuperValu dotted around the area. Opening times generally are 09.00 to 21.00. Not all supermarkets are open on Sundays, although some are open on Sunday mornings during July and August. In addition, there are numerous Chinese 'bazaars' that are open seven days a week for general household and electrical goods.
For more specialized shopping you have a choice of several shopping malls, all of which are within 20 minutes drive. These include Habaneras (Torrevieja), Dos Mares (between San Pedro and San Javier) and La Zenia Boulevard (La Zenia), the latter of which claims to boast the largest Primark store in Europe!
For the more adventurous you could head in to Murcia to Thader and Nueva Condominia with IKEA nestled in between them.
A set of bath and hand towels is provided for each guest along with kitchen towels and bath mats. These are for your personal use throughout your stay. Unless requested otherwise prior to booking, please use the laundry facilities available at your accommodation. Beach towels are not provided and we request that you do not use the bath and hand towels supplied for the beach. If you do not wish to bring your own beach towels, these can be arranged for a nominal charge.
The water from the taps in your property is quite safe for washing and preparing food. However, we do recommend that you buy in drinking water from your local supermarket.
Also, please remember that Spain does not have an infinite supply of water so please use your tap water responsibly.
We offer a choice of welcome packs which contain a selection of essential food and drinks, depending on your requirements. These are especially useful if you're arriving late at night (after the supermarkets have closed) or if you simply want to have some chilled beers and juices in the fridge on your arrival. Welcome packs must be booked at least 14 days before your arrival, so please let us know your requirements and we can advise of charges.
